The untimely death of Michael Smuin in April 2007 came at the end of my 10th year with Smuin Ballet. I will continue in 2008 to be their Lead Physical Therapist. My duties include conducting safety meetings and pre-season biomechanical evaluations as well as on-site therapy at rehearsals and performances.
Once again I presented ‘Nutrition for Optimal Performance’, originally started in 1999 at the School of the San Francisco Ballet, for the Body Mind Spirit conference, along with Scoliosis Management, Pelvic Obliquity, and The Functional Shoulder.
2007 was busy with the production of Better Back, a new book and DVD just released in January 2008 by DK Ltd. and available on Amazon. My book Stretching, released in 2006, came out in a card deck format. Stretching has sold over 41,000 copies in 15 countries! You can find all three on Amazon via links from this website. Stretching was featured in Cooking Light, the LA Times, and Baby Talk in 2006 and in September, 2007 in Cosmopolitan. The January 30, 2007 issue of Quick & Simple Magazine featured Stretching as one of a group of products to receive a first-ever Quick & Simple Award!
2007 also saw the release of four new DVD releases in the Pilates Therapeutics® DVD catalog, bringing the total to six. We have had a great response globally and you can learn about them here. We received State of California Board of Nursing Continuing Education Provider status in 2007, and in 2008 we became an accredited Distance Learning continuing education provider for ACE (American Council on Exercise).
In 2007, Pilates Therapeutics® Scoliosis Series: Part 1 was a Finalist for an Aegis Award (Video and Film Production). This DVD also received an Honorable Mention in the 2007 Accolade Competition, as did Pilates Therapeutics® A Step-Wise Approach to Post Natal Restoration.
My long-time association (25 + years!) with the outstanding dance center, Shawl-Anderson Dance Center in Berkeley, under the direction of Frank Shawl and Victor Anderson continues on Saturday morning when I teach Pilates Mat. Go to this link for the studio information:
2007 was a milestone year for me. I celebrated 20 years as a Pilates practitioner, 10 years as a licensed Physical Therapist, and 30 years in the dance field (dancer, performer, choreographer, writer, therapist, educator)! On a personal note, I celebrated 25 years of marriage to my partner Tom! Whew!
